Center of Mass- Exploring How It is Used by Pitchers
tHE MORE PITCHING VIDEO I STUDY-THE LESS I SEEM TO KNOW. BUT..... IT DOES SEEM LIKE MANY PITCHERS USE THEIR CENTER OF MASS VERY EARLY IN THE DELIVERY PROCESS........
The biggest benefit for pitchers who elevate their center of mass (COM) during the leg lift is the increase in potential energy and momentum, which leads to greater velocity. By raising their CoM, pitchers store gravitational potential energy, which gets converted into kinetic energy as they move down the mound. This allows for a more forceful and explosive drive toward home plate.
Lifting the Elbows: Phrase made famous by Paul Nyman (I know he discusses this move on the hand break). Jared Jones, along with Marcus Stroman, use a elbow lift during the leg kick to help elevate their Center of Mass. It happens quick so it is hard to see. This move seems to help these pitchers create a downhill angle (tall on the backside) along with giving them time to set the arm in a powerful position as they accelerate down the mound.
